| This is a list of computer hardware and
software that I currently use or recommend from various computer
categories. These are my personal recommendations only, and based on my
experience. Everyone likes different things, don't scream if you disagree
with me!

| Home Internet Routing
NetGear DG814 ADSL Modem Internet
Gateway
The DG814 is an ADSL router which
connects directly to the ADSL adapter without need for a separate
modem. It includes a four port Ethernet switch for connecting to
computers or other hubs/switches.

Home Hubs/Switches
D-Link DES-1008D
Fast Ethernet Switch
This is an
eight port switch which connects 10/100mbps computers and other
network equipment. It is a great starter for home networking and
requires absolutely no configuration. Very hard wearing and looks
slightly more stylish than other network switches.

| Office Routing and Network Security
Cisco Routers and Cisco IDS Systems
Cisco are the leading and in my
opinion the best manufacturers of network routers and network
security products around.
My personal experience is with the
Cisco 2600 Router, the PIX525 Firewall and the IDS 4200 Intrusion
Detection System (IDS Pictured right).
For information on Cisco products,
visit: http://www.cisco.com.
Because there are so many Cisco products designed for different
types of networks, it is not possible to make a specific
recommendation for all offices. |

Home / Small Office PC's
Dell Dimension PC's
The Dell Dimension PC's are kitted
out with the very best components and are very configurable through
the Dell web site so you can get exactly the PC you are after.
Dell PC's are especially good for
people who work with graphics/dtp/design applications with Dell's
excellent choice of graphics cards and flat screen monitor
offerings.
Dell PC's are very high performance
and the Support services are the best around.

| Office Workstations / Network PC's
IBM NetVista M Series
The NetVista M Series is a
brilliant choice for large scale deployments in businesses. These
machines feature the latest hardware, but not to the extremes of
home/small office pc's. They are small, taking up little desk space
and very durable and hard wearing.
(A dropped NetVista still works!)
Beware of the slim line cases. Whilst they are cheaper, finding PCI
cards and alike for them is difficult and expensive. Buy the full
size cases if you know you want to add custom PCI cards and
hardware.

Notebook PC's
IBM ThinkPad T Series
The ThinkPad is one of the most
rock solid notebooks I have ever encountered. My current laptop is a
Dell Inspiron that has a rather flimsy lid and has taken it's share
of dents and bashings over the year I've had it.
They come with some of the best
mobile technology available, and IBM's software in windows doesn't
hinder the laptop at all.
The one complaint I have is that
they aren't very designer stylish compared to Dell or other brands,
but I'll gladly sacrifice style for good build and long life.
